RENOVATION OF THE SCHELDE CRANE

 

The Schelde Crane is being renovated and restored completely by MIT and was returned to the former Marine dock in Vlissingen.

Following the City Plan Renovation Schelde Crane MIT has prepared for the Municipality, mayor and aldermen have approved the project on 24 January 2012. Planned is to complete the crane by the end of June 2012.

On 8 March 2012, the huge crane has been transported from his old location on the Koningsweg to his new location at the former Schelde ground. The transport is carried out in conjunction with Nederhoff Crane Company. First the tower was moved and in the afternoon the boom followed. At its new location, the crane is largely being dismantled and stripped. Then the outworn parts were replaced, and the steel construction, where necessary, was be repaired after which it was sandblasted and painted. Also the electrical installation is replaced entirely.

On June 13th 2012 The Schelde Crane was erected. First the crane tower was put back into position with two mobile telescopic cranes and placed on the original runway, then the crane boom was raised over 35 m and positioned on the tower.

After that the assembly work was completed and the new electrical installation was placed after the crane has been fine-tuned and handend over to the Municipality.
