SLEW RING BEARING GRABBING CRANE REPLACED

The slewing ring bearing of approximately 2.25m in diameter for a grab crane with a capacity of 12.5 tons in Rotterdam-Europoort was delivered and assembled by MIT.

The slewing ring bearing of the 15-year-old crane was found to have too much clearance during an inspection and had to be replaced. MIT delivered the slewing ring bearing and then planned and executed the installation. The superstructure with the boom was completely lifted of the under structure and put back after replacing the slewing ring. To this end, the slewing drive and various electric cables are disassembled.

For this operation, a floating derrick was used. With the bearing all the fixing bolts were renewed.

After this mounting operation the crane has been tested and put into operation again.
